Rechargeable batteries... worth the price?

It depends on what you use them for. If your devices are limited to a couple of flashlights and TV remotes don't even bother to buy them, but if you are like me, then they are really worth it.

Charger
You can buy a charger at any store for about $25-30 and it will do the job. You can pick many types of chargers, those that charge in 1 hour are among the best.
While companies like Duracell and Energizer have made 15 minute chargers, they are not the best in this world, I have owned 1 hour, 30 minute and 15 minute chargers and they all work good, but 15 minute chargers overheat the batteries and that shortens their life span, for emergencies they are good, but for regular use they should be avoided. Some also have a loud fan, so if you are trying to sleep while charging batteries you better be prepared for the noise.

There are some better chargers like the Maha C9000 I got from Thomas Distributing.
This charger runs around $59-69, right now it's on sale and I managed to get mine for $39.99.
While this charger is indeed expensive, it has many functions and possibilities that I will explain at some point in another review, but for those who use lots of devices and want to have more control, it is the ideal thing.

Batteries
You can get normal high capacity NiMH cells for around $10/4 pack. These batteries are good if you use high drain devices and won't have the batteries stored for a long time since they lose their capacity over time.

Pre-charged NiMH cells (also called LSD, Low Self Discharge) tend to be slightly more expensive and have less capacity (2000-2100 mAh normally) but they can be stored for longer periods of time. These will run around $12-15/4pack.

So if you want to have some 8 batteries, it will be around $30 for the charger and $20 for the batteries. That's $50.

In my case I use at least 4 batteries per day, so I would end up needing upwards of 1200 batteries per year. Assuming a cost of $0.30 per cell, that would be $400/year vs $50 of a rechargeable system. Even if I buy more cells (like I do, I have some 40 now) the savings are incredible.

Worth it? if you use lots of batteries, definitely worth it. If you don't, then it's not worth it.
